Teaching Resources

There are plenty of resources available for teaching, but there are often times when the specific needs of your class and individuals in that class require bespoke resources. Of course, this means getting your hands dirty (digitally speaking of course) and making your own resources. The list below is a large collection of ESOL resources I have created myself. Feel free to use them if you are a teacher and would find them helpful.

Class survey - Induction
Match Cards - Instructions
Common Opposites
Health - Using articles

Raise the River Podcast Archive.

Podcasts are the internet's interpretation of the radio: content that you can download (or stream) and listen to whenever you like.

There are thousands of amateur podcasts around at the moment and this is mine. A podcast published about once a month looking at the Raise the River poker community. Other than segments recorded by other people, I am responsible for the entire production of the podcast - mostly using an audio program called audacity.

Please note that there is some explicit language in these podcasts.

General Features for the BBC

The following pieces are a wide selection of other individual pieces of work that have found themselves onto the BBC website.

There is an eclectic mix of articles that demonstrate my flexibility and skills in tackling different subjects and topics to produce creative, informative and entertaining copy.

Where Now For the Terriers?
Has Cadamarteri got what it takes? Will the fans have faith in Andy Ritchie? Will the 'feelgood' factor return? So many questions ahead of Huddersfield Town's 2007-2008 season, but Terriers fan Rob Wilson thinks he might have a few answers...

Makeover madness in Huddersfield
It's makeover time at Huddersfield Uni...for the girls at least! And, as student and aspiring teacher Rob Wilson's been finding out, it's all taken VERY seriously: "Hell hath no fury like a woman without a makeover!"

Who Do We Think We Are?
If there is one thing we all have in common it is that we are all different. But do we want to know how different we are? We all come from somewhere and we all come from someone. Rob Wilson in Brighouse has been finding out...

Reading Revolution
There should be more to being a kid in 2006 than burgers and blasting bug-eyed beings on the Playstation, says Rob in Brighouse. One answer is BOOKS! He's been finding out why the town's leading the way in a reading revolution...

Scenes of a Graphic Nature
The future of computer art looks to be in very good hands, and it's all thanks to a library and art gallery housed in a Grade II listed building in Brighouse. Rob's been finding out more..!

The Shayman Who Showed his Colours
Diehard Terriers fan he may be, but Rob Wilson's never one to shy away from finding out more about The Beautiful Game - even if it means talking to Halifax Town's Number One Fan, Johnny Meynell!

Old Coats and Bowling Balls
From creative writing tutor at Huddersfield Uni to Poet in Residence at Ilkley Literature Festival, Craig Bradley's been there and done that. Rob Wilson's been catching up with West Yorkshire's wordsmith!

Al Murray Comedy Review
Al Murray - or The Pub Landlord as he's best known has recently performed his show at St George's Hall in Bradford and Huddersfield-based reviewer Rob Wilson went along to see him.

Radio Calderdale

After finishing my work with the student newspaper I decided to take my creative direction towards radio and broadcasting. Also, because I am currently working part time as a teacher, I have spare time to volunteer which is something I've been wanting to do for a number of years.

I am currently volunteering for Calderdale Hospital Radio. At the moment I am helping out as a request collector, going around the wards and taking song requests for a show put out on Wednesday evenings. I also host a show on Saturday afternoons covering all the sports action that's going on during the football season.

I recorded my first ever broadcast (music removed) and hope to add more recordings to the blog as I improve.

Raise the River Podcasts.

In addition to the hospital radio work, I wanted to explore the new-fangled world of podcasting. It also gave me the opportunity to produce material on a topic I have a keen interest in - poker. Don't worry, don't worry, I'm not a mad gambler or anything. I am interested in the game but I only play for insignificant stakes. I'm more interested in the industry, the culture and stories behind it.

Raise the River is a strong UK poker community. At the start of the year I offered to produce some podcasts that focused on community news, interviews with the forum members and poker strategy discussion, all with a hint of light-hearted seasoning.

Each podcast has developed and tested a new skill, from technical production to developing a voice for radio (how corny does that sound?). With any luck each podcast demonstrates a natural progression from complete amateur to, well, still amateur.
