During the latter half of 2007 I was invited to edit the Huddersfield Student, the Student Union newspaper of Huddersfield University. I edited two editions of the newspaper before a permanent editor was elected in the student elections (I was unable to run for the election because I was no longer a student at the university).
My role was basically everything. From designing the newspaper, to editing people's work to deciding what direction the newspaper would go.
With no production support (no students were at university at the time) and a two-week deadline I was able to project-manage the first edition of the new academic year. Changes I implemented included a refocusing of the content to include more student-related issues, a rigorous drive to encourage new contributors and a complete redesign of the newspaper.
Septemeber 2007 Issue.
Following the success of the first edition I was able to canvass and market the paper at the university Freshers’ Fayre, establish new links and partners with the paper, and design/edit the second edition successfully.
October 2007 Issue.
